Announcement 33rd VHYC Yeast Conference

Announcement 33rd VHYC Yeast Conference We are glad to invite you to our annual VH Yeast Conference – this year again as a live conference in Berlin, Germany – on September 12 and 13, 2022 (with an online option if you prefer). As a special focus, we will celebrate the “100th anniversary of the VH Berlin”. Additionally, our favourite “workhorse” Saccharomyces cerevisiae (baker’s yeast) was elected “Microbe of the Year 2022” by the The Association for General and Applied Microbiology (VAAM). So in addition to a host of presentations, we will once again have the change to meet each other “for real” and enjoy personal exchange as well as networking opportunities. Last but not least, the VH Berlin’s association General Assembly will take place in the morning on September 12 right before the conference. More details and a registration form can be found here. Announcement: VH Seminar on Yeast Technology May 2022 (on-site in Berlin)

The VH Berlin is offering a seminar on Yeast Technology in May 2022 (02.05. – 06.05.) –  we will cover the production of fresh baker’s yeast as well as dry yeast. The seminar will take on-site in Berlin. Topics covered will be Overview of industrial baker’s yeast production Raw materials Technical microbiology Fermentation planning Baker’s yeast fermentation in industrial scale Downstream processing Fermentation balancing As a teaser, you can find a sample from our yeast technology seminar here – topic is the oxygen supply to the yeast during fermentation. There will be room for individual questions (preferably provided before seminar start). The lectures will offer the possibility for questions, further explanations and discussion. Announcement 2nd VHOYC Online Yeast Conference

Due to the current situation and international regulations still in place, this year’s Yeast Conference is online again – the 2nd VHOYC (VH Online Yeast Conference) will take place on September 13-14, 2021. We would like to welcome you as participants or lecturers. Building up on our 2020 experiences, we will increase the interaction possibilities for our audience to allow for more personal exchange and offer networking opportunities. Announcement: VH Autumn Seminar on Yeast Technology 2021 (Online)

The annual VH Berlin Autumn Seminar on Yeast Technology will take place during one week, November 15-19, 2021. Please contact us for details! Due to the global health and travel situation, the seminar will be held live online this year as a webinar. It will take 4hrs (+30min break) per day over the course of four days. Seminar time will be 08:00-12:30 central European Summer Time (CEST)/ 06:00-10:30 GMT/UTC. 1st VHOYC – looking back, and announcing the VHYC 2021

Dear participants and lecturers, we are looking back at our yeast conference which had to be held online this year for the first time ever. While it was a new format, lacking the face-to-face exchange we are all so used to, we have received overall positive feedback. There are no photos to be shared this year, but you can still have a look at our abstract compilation on the conference page. We would like to thank all of you again for having made this conference possible, and are looking forward to meet again live next year in Berlin – May 10-11, 2021!

VH Berlin and COVID-19 effects

Dear VH members and clients, the current developments  of the COVID-19 situation and the public regulations in place have an effect on the VH Berlin services as well. Laboratory: Currently we are operating our laboratories while taking all necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our lab personell as well as our clients.  Please send tracking codes/delivery notifications in advance to yeastlab@vh-berlin.org as well. Accounting: Office works currently from home partially, in part time due to additional child care responsibilities. The processing of your inquiries may take longer than normal.

Announcement: 1st VHOYC Online Yeast Conference

Due to the current developments of the COVID-19 situation and the public regulations, the VH advisory board and Dr. Quantz have decided to cancel the 33rd VHYC 2020 which was supposed to be held in Berlin. Instead, we are pleased to announce the 1st VHOYC (VH Online Yeast Conference) which will take place in September 2020. We would like to welcome you as participants or lecturers. The web conference date will be ~September 14-15, 2020, more details and a registration form will be available from May on the conference web page as well. Thank you for your understanding and patience – we look forward to welcome you to our 1st VHOYC!

No baker’s yeast shortages!

(Bonn, GER – March 26, 2020) Yeast is very popular nowadays, shelves in the super markets are empty often. The German Association of Yeast Producers (Deutscher Verband der Hefeindustrie e.V.) has provided a press release, stating that there are no production shortages and that the logistics for the retail market are expected to catch up again soon.
